Biography

1864 August 10th, at age 16, Sue was arrested in Marshall, after "false rumors and the display of Southern colors", at least this was the reason she gave. As a newspaper article shows, she had also written letters to a friend where she proclaimed her sympathy for the "bushwackers". She was sent to the female prison and about September 6 she was transferred to the Gratiot Street prison in St. Louis. On October 10th, she was convinced to take the oath of allegiance and was released. Despite her oath, she remained a supporter of the southern cause.[1] [2][3][4]

In 1866 she married John R Cason. He had been a captain in the Confederate Army and he was later sheriff, P. O., of Marshall, Missouri. They had seven children.[5] Note: these are the children known by the authors of this record, as they lived to adulthood.

In later years she was supported by her two daughters who were working in Washington DC, as well as by her son John.

1902 Son John died from suicide at age 19.

Her husband died in 1909 according to his grave marker, though she is mentioned in the newspaper article about her son's death as being widowed.

After the death of her son John, she lived with her daughter Willie and Willie's husband and she is listed there in the 1910 census.
