William Joseph Bryan was born on August 10, 1883, in Polk, Missouri, to Sarah Jane Chadwell, age 16, and John Thomas Bryan, age 31. In 1900, his family was farming in Talleyrand, Kansas. [1]
When he registered for the World War I draft in 1918, he was living in Seward Alaska. He was working in a sawmill and was described as tall with medium build, blue eyes, and black hair. [2] In 1920, he was single and owned his own home where he had two lodgers living with him. [3]
In the 1940 census, William states that he is a widower and family records indicate that his wife's name may have been Kalinda. [4]
in 1942, he registered for the World War II draft. He was 6 feet tall, weighed 180 pounds, and had blue eyes and gray hair. He also had a scar on his foot. [5] While living in Seward, the population never got above 950 people.
He died on October 9, 1944, in Seward, Alaska, at the age of 61.
