OBITUARY
MR. EDWIN BUCHANAN
We regret having to record the passing of Mr. Edwin Buchanan (71) whose death occurred at his residence in Birnam Road, Beaudesert, on Sunday May 9.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. H. W. Griffiths in St. Thomas' Church of England on Monday afternoon, and transport arrangements to the South Brisbane Crematorium were handled by Messrs S. R. Le Grand and Son.
The late Mr. Buchanan was a retired sawmiller, and was born in Brisbane. He subsequently came to reside in Lamington where he conducted his own sawmilling business for 23 years. He started off scratch and built his own mill, supplying all employees with their own homes. The mill was destroyed by fire, and in 1929 he came to Beaudesert and his employees brought their own homes with them from Lamington.
Deceased carried on in Beaudesert for 19 years until 1948, when he retired because of failing health.
He was a member of the Beaudesert Shire Council for a number of years and was a foundation member of the local Masonic fraternity.
He is survived by a widow and three daughters— Mesdames L. Charter, E. Barnes and D. White— and a son, Ervine (Pik).
