Biography

Margaret Ruth Buchanan was born about 23 August 1908 and was baptised on 29 September 1908 at George Nympton, Devon, England^[1][2]. She was the daughter of Reverend Alfred Edward Buchanan and his wife Margaret Agnes Stevens.

In the 1911 England Census, Margaret Ruth Buchanan (aged 2) was recorded living with her father Alfred Edward Buchanan (39), her mother Margaret Agnes Buchanan (33) and her two older brothers Frank Buchanan (7) and Laurence Medlicot Buchanan (5) at the Rectory, George Nympton, Devon. Also in the household were three servants.

By 1921 she and her family were living at Pedmore, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, England.

She married James Patrick Murray (the son of Colonel Edward Murray and Hilda Paul) on 21 May 1934 at Broken Hill, Northern Rhodesia.

They had three children:

1. James Alexander Gideon Murray (b. 18 Sep 1936)
2. Patrick Edward Murray (b. 11 Aug 1939)
3. Thomas Walter Murray (b. 17 Jan 1942, d. 9 Oct 2016)

Her husband was Commissioner of Northern Rhodesia in the United Kingdom and was Senior Provincial Commissioner of Northern Rhodesia.

Her husband James died on 8 January 1993.

Margaret passed away on 25 February 2005^[3].
