Biography

Martha Buchanan was born about 1727. She was the daughter of John Buchanan, Jr. and Margaret Buchanan. [1] She married Captain John Buchanan in Augusta County, Virginia. They had the following children:

  • John Buchanan
  • Alexander Buchanan
  • James Buchanan
  • Archibald Buchanan
  • George Buchanan
  • Patrick Buchanan

On 20 August 1771, she and her husband deeded 340 acres in Augusta County, Virginia, to Charles Berry. [2]

The family eventually moved to Plaster (or Locust) Cove on the North Fork of the Hoston River.

Further Research

Martha's mother, Margaret, may have been Margaret Campbell, daughter of John Campbell and Grissel Hay Campbell. The dates are about right, and the Campbell, Hay and Buchanan families all lived in the same general area in Augusta County, but so far there doesn't seem to be any further proof of this connection.
