Edward was born in 1811 in Pennsylvania, son of James Buchanan 1761 - 1821 and Elizabeth (Speer) Buchanan 1767 - 1833. He married Anne Eliza Foster [1812 - 1891]in 1833.
His wife Anne was a daughter of William B. Foster of Pittsburg and a sister of Stephen C. Foster, the composer of "Old Folks at Home" and "My Old Kentucky Home" and William B. Foster, one of the first engineers of the Pennsylvania Railroad who died in 1801.
Dr. Buchanan was a son of James Buchanan and a brother of James Buchanan, President of the United States, who was 20 years his senior.
Dr. Buchanan received his early education at Mercersburg and at the age of 15 entered Dickinson College. He graduated with the second honors of his class.
Dr. Buchanan was a faithful and devoted Pastor, and was much beloved by those who knew him. He was active in the work of the church in this diocese and had been a member of different church organizations.
Per Census records, Edward and his wife had the following children.[1][2]
Edw died (age 84) on 20 January 1895 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[3] Funeral Services for Edward were held at St. James Church. Rev was mentioned on a memorial in Trinity Oxford Episcopal Churchyard, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, United States with a death date of 25 January 1895.[4]
Edward was in an obituary on 23 January 1895 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, United States. He died (age 83) on 20 January 1895 in Philadelphia.[5]
Edward's estate passed probate on 20 March 1894 in Cape May, New Jersey, United States.[6]
