Page 73: "I had the good fortune to discover in an old cemetery near the East Norwalk (Conn.) railway station, some graves of which one at least, that of Mrs. Mary Buckingham, has been an object of search for many years. Nearly in the centre of the burial ground I found several pieces of a broken blue-slate headstone which were piled together around the remnant which remained in the ground ; placing these fragments together, I was able to make out this inscription: "Here lyes buried the Body of the Revd Stephen Buckingham, late pastor of the 1st Church of Christ in Norwalk. Departed this Life Feb. 3, 1745-6 Etatis 70."

While researching Yale College records in the 1700s, for an ancestor, Reuben Garlick, who's father's (Henry Garlick) first wife was Elizabeth Buckingham, great grandddaughter of Thomas Buckingham III, first President of Yale College, I noticed that Stephen Buckingham was a Trustee of Yale College 1718-1732 (source: The Annals and History of Yale College 1700-1747 by Thomas Clap).
