Josiah Buckingham was born on August 12, 1718 in Milford, New Haven, Connecticut, son of Gideon Buckingham (1675–1719) and Sarah Hunt (1682– ).
Josiah married Ann Brinsmeade (born in February, 1723, admitted to full communion, Nov. 5, 1751) daughter of John Brinsmeade and Abigail (Wheeler) Brinsmeade). Their children were:
