Research Notes

I think this profile should be considered very dubious. The uncited secondary/tertiary source that it appears to derive from is not very good (DeGidio's Ware Family History (2003), p. 440-and I just have to guess what the source is because nobody bothered to put it down when creating the profile) and it's got a lot of red flags, like an anachronistic middle name and all-too-precise but unsourced birth years in poorly documented historical contexts. The proposed birth date of 1680 is extremely inconsistent with all known primary source information about the ages of Richard and Elizabeth Buckner's children. She would be the oldest of them by close to 4 decades. It's possible this "Frances Elizabeth" could be from a first wife, but Richard might not have even reached the age of majority by 1680. I think if anyone knowledgeable of the period reads DeGidio's book, it's going to be obvious to them that this is not a very reliable source, regularly garbling and misunderstanding basic geography and common place names, and it lacks even casual references or citations to the sources for the above information.

Frances was born before 1700. She passed away before 1800.

  • John Garrett IV 1706-1784 named his daughter after his mother; Frances Elizabeth Garrett Gibson.

Frances was born about 1680. Frances Buckner ... She passed away about 1739. [2]Really?

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Frances by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Frances:

A birth date (Buckner-3 born 1680) is more than 40 years before or after a sibling's birth date (Buckner-165 born 1721) .

another set of profiles for Frances Elizabeth Buckner & John Ware Garrett III had a Geni link as a source for John: https://www.geni.com/people/John-Garrett-III/6000000001322314741

That led to the Geni entry for his wife - https://www.geni.com/people/Frances-Garrett/6000000004969898038 ... born c1669 in Rappahannock County and died before 1728 in Stafford County, Virginia. Geni has her as the daughter of Anthony Buckner and Sarah (Ellis) Buckner.

So perhaps this is who was meant in the passage about two Frances Elizabeth Buckners in the text of this profile (as of 3 June 2023).

and... Geni had a Find a Grave link that puts her death in King and Queen County:

  • Death: 1740 (aged 64–65), King and Queen County, Virginia, USA

Buckner-2764 and Buckner-3 appear to represent the same person because: dates are different but husband and son are the same - please merge (I just completed a merge of duplicate profiles for son Edward & proposed a merge for the duplicate profiles attached as his father/husband of Buckner). These profiles need to be merged also. Thanks!

Buckner-2764 and Buckner-3 are not ready to be merged because: I've been working on trying to sort out this family & re-reading everything. While it is unlikely that two colonial women had the exact same name - including middle name, which was rarely used at the time, the text on the profile with the 1680 birth year has the following note:
NOTE: There were two Frances Elizabeth Buckner's one was the daughter of Richard Buckner and Elizabeth Cooke and the other... Excerpt: This Frances Elizabeth Buckner was born abt 1680 in Essex County, Virginia. She married John Ware Garrett.

It's even less likely that the two same-named women were married to the same man (both profiles are attached to duplicate profiles for John Garrett & both had been attached to duplicate profiles for a son named Edward).

However, in case the Frances Elizabeth Buckner who married John Ware Garrett is a different person than the Frances Elizabeth Buckner with parents attached, I've postponed this merge.

If you have any reliable sources for these people, please share!

Thanks!

update - this profile was not detached from parents Elizabeth & Richard in 2021 & Elizabeth's profile currently shows a 1662 birth year

profile attached as mother was born in 1675, so she can't have been the mother. I intend to detach this profile from both Elizabeth Cooke & her husband, Richard Buckner.

I think this profile is pretty dubious. See research notes below. I strongly caution anyone against using this information for anything until someone comes up with some primary sources for it.

Buckner-160 and Buckner-3 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth year/place and parents. Minor variation in spelling of "Frances" or "Francis" is either due to lack of a standardized spelling in her lifetime or a later transcription error.
Francis Elizabeth Buckner Cooke's, Maternal Grandfather was Mordecai Cooke Junior-(1649/1718). Her husband, Mordecai Cooke III's, father was Mordecai Cooke junior. She married her uncle.
