Biography

Crozier[1] reports a tradition that Mordecai Cooke, son of Mordecai Cooke the immigrant, married a "Miss Buckner" and elaborates that "it is believed that" Richard's daughter Elizabeth married him. It is difficult to extricate reported traditions from suppositions from Crozier's text, but that particular Mordecai Cooke was probably around the same age as Richard himself, so if he married a Miss Buckner, chances are it was not one of Richard's daughters, especially since most of Richard's children seem to have been born fairly late in his life, after 1700 (e.g. Susanna in 1721). Others have attempted to explain this by transferring the still largely hypothetical Elizabeth Buckner to one of the later Mordecai Cookes, but since we are not actually sure that any of these claims are true in the first place, there is probably little point in attempting to guess which Mordecai Cooke may have married a Buckner who may have been named Elizabeth and may have been the daughter of Richard Buckner. We would certainly be overreaching the limits of our knowledge to generate database entries from this speculation. Even if Mordecai Cooke II married a Miss Buckner, which is not inherently improbable since the families were closely connected, there were numerous other Buckners who could have been her father.

It is unlikely that all of the children listed as siblings are correct. Some names will be eliminated by merger, others may need to be reattached to their correct parentage. (11/17/2015)

Liz, I just adopted this profile as it had no PM and appeared to be on my tree indirectly. I'll poke around for sources, add any that come up in you research please. If she remains unsourced, we might want to check for merging potential. After a brief search, I'm going to recuse myself in favor of the other PM who seems quite competent. If no sources are available, I SUGGEST A MERGE.
could you add your sources? there are a several Buckner/Cooke marriages, including Mordecai I's daughter Elizabeth (b 1652) who married Richard Buckner. Thanks!

Buckner-688 and Buckner-689 appear to represent the same person because: Buckner-688 erroneously gives her father's birth year as her own. Otherwise, data between these two appears to match.
Mark, I note that you have a profile named "Data Incorrect" (Incorrect-1) as the daughter of Elizabeth (Cooke) Buckner. By looking at the changes to this profile, I see that it was originally Cook-2336 or "Elizabeth Cooke." I'm working with the profile of Judith (Thornton) Buckner (Thornton-470) which is also managed by you. Thornton-470 seems to have a sister also name Judith Thornton who died at the age of two. Can you please allow me to become PM for these conflicting and confusing entries so that I can seek help from experienced d Wikitree folk to clean them up. Thank you.
Buchner-45 and Buckner-181 do not represent the same person because: Not enough information
