Biography

Charles Henry Tharp – He was born 6 Apr 1878 (MEN). He married Florence (Etta) Buckner Foiles on 2 July 1902 (CMB). Etta had married John William Foiles, son of Henry and Parthenia and brother of Roselia Foiles Tharp, on 27 Mar 1887 (CMB). Although I have not been able to find a cemetery record for John W. Foiles, my assumption is Etta was widowed, rather than divorced. It isn’t clear who Etta’s parents were. In the 1900 census, an Eli Bucker (52) and his wife, Emma (49), were living five doors away from the Thomas N. Tharp family and two doors away from the John and Etta Tharp Benz family. (Thomas and Etta were the children of James C. Tharp.) The Buckners had been married 29 years and had one child at home – a 6-year-old daughter. Of 10 children, only 3 were living in 1900, so there were two children not in the home. I have not found Etta in the 1900 census.
