Obituary

GENERAL BUELL DEAD.
Veteran of Mexican and Civil Wars Succumbs to Long Illness.
REPUBLIC SPECIAL
Rockport, Ky., Nov. 19. - General Don Carlos Buell, one of the conspicuous military officers of Kentucky, died at his home, Airdrie, in this (Muhlenburg) county, after a long illness. He had for several weeks been aware that the end was near and had made all arrangements for the disposition of his effects, even expressing the wish that his remain be buried in St. Louis.
General Buell was 80 years of age and a native of Ohio. He graduated from West Point in 1841. He served in the Mexican and Civil Wars, in the latter being chiefly noted for his work in Kentucky, where, after the war, he laid aside his sword and became identified with this State as a permanent resident. He was a Democrat in politics and was Pension Agent at Louisville during Cleveland's first term.
General Buell passed quietly away at 3 o'clock this afternoon, the end having come slowly, and all being prepared for the final dissolution. Airdrie is some distance in the country from here and details will hardly be received to-night. It is presumed the body will be prepared for immediate shipment to St. Louis, after brief services at the home, but nothing can be learned until to-morrow.
