Susannah Buffington was the daughter of white trader Ezekiel Buffington and his Cherokee wife, Mary Emory, and granddaughter of trader Ludovic Grant. She was from the Long Hair clan. [1] She was born in the Cherokee Nation (East) about 1785. She first married Jeffrey Beck; they were the parents of Ellis, John, Joseph, Jeffrey, Ezekiel, Mary "Polly", and Arie. [2] Her second husband was Surry Eaton; they were the parents of at least four children, Catherine (Sinia), Phoebe, Harlin [3] and Richard. The 1835 Cherokee census lists Surry Eaton with a family of six living on the Etowah River (now Georgia). [4] Susannah was removed with her family to Indian Territory where they settled in the Goingsnake District. Susannah appears on the 1851 Drennan Roll with sons Harlin and Richard. [5] Susannah is believed to have died about 1860. [6]
