Richard Bull, Gent., Bailiff & Burgess of Hertford was born before 1527 at of St. Andrew, Hertford, Hertfordshire, England; Of full age in 1548.
On 8 Feb. 1547/8 Richard Bull of London, Gent. quit claimed to John Forster of Bramfield, Gent., land and tenements in Bramfield, Tewin and Datchworth, formerly belonging to John Pyrte.[1]
He married Alice Hunt circa 1560; They had 2 sons (Henry; & Richard) & 3 daughters (Anne/Agnes, wife of Edmund Miles; Elizabeth; & Alice). Richard Bull, Gent., Bailiff & Burgess of Hertford left a will on 2 September 1565.
Richard then returned to Hertford where he was the bailiff in 1578 and a Burgess of the borough.[2]
Richard Bull of Hertford, Gent. made his will 2 Sept. 1585 which was proved on 23 Nov. of that year. He made Alice his executrix and charged her with bringing up their children Henry, Richard, and Alice who were still minors. Alice had life tenancy of several messuages and tenements which after her death went to Henry. A tenement in the west end of Hertford in the occupancy of Anthony Garland was given to Richard. His daughter Alice was to have £50 at her marriage or age 21. Richard was given a bed, sheets and bed clothing. His daughter Agnes Myles, wife of Edmund Myles, was given £5 and their children Richard and Henry Myles were given 20s each. Overseers were his friend and neighbor Reynold Basse and his son Henry Bull. The Inquisition Post Mortem was held 28 May 1586 and listed his land holdings:
He held a messuage called Raffes at the west end of the town of Hertford, another called Blackemore in the parish of St. Andrews held of the Queen’s manor of Baylyhall, Hertford; messuages in Stapleford and Bengeo; and a tenement called Bakers in Stapleford.

It appears that Richard Bull's children were all born after he was forty-nine or fifty years old. Whether he was a bachelor or a childless widower when he married Alice Hunt has not been determined. His Inquisition Post Mortem indicates that after his death she married on 17 March 1586 Anthony Garland.
Charles Bull's will directs that his children be bound as apprentices in London. That this happened to Richard is suggested by the following:
6 February 1547/8; Quit Claim by Richard Bull of London, Gentleman to John Forster of Bramfield, Gentleman, in regard to lands and tenements in Bramfield, Tewin and Datchworth, formerly of John Pyrte (Manor of Bramfield).
Later, he returned to Herfordshire, where he served as a bailiff in 1578 and a Burgess of the borough.
