James was born in either Robeson, North Carolina or Union District South Carolina. The family was in Robeson for the 1790 Census and was in South Carolina for the 1800 Census.[1]The family was still in South Carolina in 1810.
By 1813 the family was in Gibson County, Indiana where the father, John and his two sons, James and Thomas died of fever. James was only 19.
