Moses was a Friend (Quaker)

Biography

Birth: The record of his birth is in the records of Symons Creek Monthly Meeting in Pasquotank County, North Carolina. It reads "Moses Bundy Son of dittoes [Caleb Bundy & Miriam his wife] was born ye 26 of ye 11 mo 1774." He was the seventh of nine children of Caleb and Miriam, and also had six older half siblings from his father's first marriage.

His father Caleb died when he was 10 years old.

Marriage: His marriage to Elizabeth Jones is often recorded in family histories as January 21, 1797. The encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy Vol. 1 reads "1797, 1, 21. Moses rmt [reported married to] Elizabeth Jones." I haven't yet found the actual marriage document. Their first intentions, recorded in the Women's Minutes of Symons Creek Monthly Meeting, read: "At a Monthly Meeting of Women friends held near Symons Creek in Pasquotank County the 19th of the 11th mo 1796 Moses Bundy and Elisabeth Jones appeared and published their Intentions of Marriage before this Meeting Lydia Evans & Mary Morris are appointed to Inquire into her Clearness of Conversation in relation to Marriage & report to the next Monthly Meeting." Their second intentions, recorded in the same minutes, read: "At a Monthly Meeting held near Symons Creek in pasquotank County the 17th of the 12th mo 1796 Moses Bundy & Elisabeth Jones appeared and Desired an answer to their former proposals nothing appearing to obstruct they are left at their liberty to go before the M(??). Mary Morris & Lydia Evans are Appointed to attend the Marriage and report their Care to next Monthly Meeting."

The 1800 Census gives his name as Moses Bundy. He was living in Pasquotank County, North Carolina and the household consisted of 2 males under 10 [son Joseph and one unknown?], 1 free white male 26 to 44 [Moses himself], 1 free white female under 10 [daughter Margaret], 1 free white female 16 to 25 [wife Elizabeth]. He was living near a Caleb Bundy, likely his brother, and a Miriam Bundy, likely his mother.

In 1807, the Bundy family moved from Symons Creek MM to Back Creek MM in Randolph County, NC. The American Quaker Genealogy Vol. 1 (p. 133) states "1807, 4, 18. Moses & six ch, Joseph, Margaret, Rebecca, Mary, & Eli [& William], gct Back Creek MM." and "1807, 4, 18. Elisabeth rqct Back Creek MM. (rem with h)." An entry in the Men's Minutes of Back Creek MM reads "At our Monthly Meeting of Back Creek the 26 of the 9 mo 1807 ... Moses Bundy produced a Certificate to this meeting for himself sons, Joseph William & Eli from Symons Creek Monthly meeting dated the 18th of 4 mo 1807 which was read & accepted."

Death: August 31, 1827, age 52. His death is recorded in the records of Blue River Monthly Meeting in Washington County, Indiana. He is buried in the Blue River Cemetery in the county. His will mentions the following family members: son, Eli Bundy. daughter, Mary Bundy. son, Caleb Bundy. wife, unnamed (second wife?), sons Joseph and William. daughters Margaret and Rebekah Menninghill. friends, Nathan Trublood and William Mills(?).
