At the trial, which was reported in the paper, (Samuel) George appeared for the prosecution. Alfred Samuel and the others were found guilty. The will was revoked. (Samuel) George also successfully sued his mother for £100 that was owed him by his late father who had had borrowed this from him.
Samuel George died the following year age 37 on 26th July 1876, and he was buried on 31st July 1876 at Heathfield Independent Chapel. Probate on his will was granted on 15th March 1877. His effects were valued at 'under £100', so he possibly never got back the £100 owed him.

Their memorial inscription at Heathfield Independent Chapel reads: 'In affectionate remembrance of Samuel George Burchett, late of this parish, Poulterer, who died July 26th 1876, Aged 37 years. What cause of grief succeeds the fatal blow, A careful widow and five children know. Yet He, the ruler of the rolling spheres, Protects the Matron, and their tender years. Also of Eliza Burchett, wife of the above, Who died April 22nd 1895, Age 53 years. Bitter the pain, the sting was severe, To part from her we love so dear. The trial was hard, we will not complain, But trust in God's mercy to see her again'.
