Elsie (Burchett) Joyner was born in Sussex, England.
The birth of Elsie BURCHETT, a Female, was registered during Apr-May-Jun 1908 in the Registration district of Ticehurst. Note- The birth index does not indicate a maiden name for her mother which usually indicates that the mother was not married at the time of the birth.[1]
In 1911 Elsie was living in the Ticehurst Union Workhouse And Infirmary, The Furzes, Flimwell, Hawkhurst, Kent. [2]
Note - As it is the workhouse no family relationships are given in the census records so the five Burchett surnamed residents may or may not be related. Mabel Ellen Burchett was recorded separately as being a servant to the institution and her occupation being Hospital Nurse whereas the other 4 were grouped together as inmates of the institution. Mabel Ellen Burchett is the daughter of Jabez Burchett and Miriam (Mitten) Burchett and does not appear to be immediately related to John Burchett nor Emily (Hodge) Burchett who appear to be either married to each other (with a 21 year age difference) or be father-in-law/daughter-in-law. The 1 year old infant Alfred Henry Burchett is the son of Emily (Hodge) Burchett (GRO). The GRO birth registration index does not make it clear that 3 year old Elsie Burchett is the daughter of either Emily (Hodge) Burchett so there is a chance she is the daughter of Mabel Ellen Burchett - further research needed.
