A life-long resident of Harrison township and a member of one of the district's pioneer families, Robert J. Burd, 68, passed away following a lengthy illness in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Thiele, 1114 Liberty avenue, Natrona Heights, at 5 p. m. yesterday. Mr. Burd before his retirement in 1940 was electric line foreman for Natrona Light and Power Co. He became associated with Pennsylvania Salt Manufacturing Co., the parent company, in 1890 and worked his apprenticeship with the late Nicholas Raiter, who started the electric department at Penn Salt out of which grew the light and power public utility company. He was associated with Penn Salt and Natrona Light and Power for 50 years. As a young man, he installed the first electric lines in the township. His wife, the late Minnie Roenick Burd, was fatally injured several years ago in an automobile accident. Mr. Burd was active in church and fraternal affairs. He was a member of Natrona Methodist Church; Natrona Lodge No. 743, Odd Fellows; Frankfort Lodge No. 391 Knights of Pythia; Pollock Lodge, F. and A. M., and Syria Temple. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Thiele; a sister, Mrs. Charles Kuhn of Donnellville; two brothers, John of Campton, and William, of Sarver, and one grandson. Friends are being received at the Walters funeral home, East Tenth avenue.
