Biography

Samuel Coy[1] "Sam" Burdick was born 17 Aug 1916[2] in Alabama[3] to Robert Agusta Burdick and Mary Alice Smith.[4][5][6]

He first married Ruby Bradley, daughter of John R and Fronie Bradley,[3] on 02 Jul 1938 in Crestview, Okaloosa County, Florida[7][8][9] and the couple had the following known children:

  1. Billie Burdick was born about 1939 in Alabama.[3]

He then married Opal Love Byram,[1] daughter of J. F. Byram and Josephine Skinner, on 18 May 1957 in Angleton, Brazoria County, Texas[10] and the couple had the following known children:

  1. Cupadyne Burdick was born 17 Dec 1957 in Brazoria County, Texas.[1]

Sam died 31 Dec 1999 in Paris, Lamar County, Texas.[11][2][12][13] He is buried in plot 57 in Evergreen Cemetery, Paris, Lamar County, Texas.[14]

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sybil Burdick of Grand Bay, AL; two daughters, Mrs. Yvonne Wrightson of Theodore, AL and Mrs. Armestine Wilson of Philadelphia, MS, one son, Edward Jackson Burdick of Panama City, FL; one brother, Samuel Coy Burdick of Washington State; seven grandchildren, one great granddaughter, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral service will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 27, 1988 at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are by Radney Funeral Home, Dauphin Street Extension, Mobile, AL.

    Opal Love Burdick
    Funeral services for Opal Love Burdick will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2020, 2:00 PM at the Roden-Pryor Funeral Home in Paris, Texas with Dr. Tom Calk officiating. Opal traveled home to her loving Lord on September 19, 2020, in Paris, Texas, at the age of 96.
    Opal Love Burdick was born January 11, 1924, in Oklahoma to J.F. Byram & Josiephine Skinner. She married Sam Coy Burdick on May 18, 1957 in Angleton, TX. Opal's love of life and heart-warming smile brightened everyone who was around her plus she gave the most awesome hugs. She loved to travel with her family, do missionary work and was an excellent bowler. Her faith and love of her church allowed her to participate in many different jobs and roles that touched many lives. Opal’s greatest gifts was always knowing how to bring the family back together to celebrate life, always available to help others and sharing her faith with all she met. Most of all, Opal was a Christ-filled prayer warrior.
    Opal is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Sam, son, Charles "Crawford" Cain, and daughter, Josephine Cain-Hunt. Surviving family members are son, Robert Cain and wife, Harvelyn; daughters, Cupadyne Burdick and husband, Todd, Jackie Wylie and husband, James Sr.; grandsons, Sam Haagensen and wife, Morgan, Jody Paul Haagensen and James Wylie Jr.; 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She fondly remembers her special lifelong friend in Christ, Dr. Tom Calk.
    Family will receive friends Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020, from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM, at the Roden-Pryor Funeral Home, 425 S. Church St., Paris, Texas. The family request everyone to wear masks during the visitation and funeral service along with social distancing. The family request donations to The Lighthouse Church of Paris, 3890 SE Loop 286, Paris, TX 75460. Family and friends are also invited to sign the guest book or send private condolences to the family at www.rodenpryor.com.
