Remember Burgess, born in Yarmouth on 23 June 1714, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (__?__) Burgess, probably married 11 March 1736/7 to Israel(4) Cole III of Eastham. [1] They removed first to Dutchess and Ulster Counties in New York, then to Washington County, Virginia.[2]
Disputed Origins
Katherine W. Hiam, in the Burgess Genealogy, Descendants of the Four Sons of Thomas and Dorothy (Waynes) Burgess (Boston, MA: NEHGS, 1997), pp. 87-88, says this Remember was the bride of Israel Cole, but Amos Otis thought she was the daughter of Joseph(3), John(2), Thomas(1) Burgess - Remember Burgess born Yarmouth 21 Jun 1716.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Remember by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Remember:
I have no record of Remember marrying anyone other than Israel Cole. Note that the Mayflower Families Thru 5 Generations (Silver Book) on Hopkins, p. 158, states:
"Israel Cole m. Remember Burgess, [removed] to Dutchess and Ulster Cos. NY; then to Washington Co. VA"
It makes no mention of a 2nd marriage for either of them. It also states that Israel and his brothers 'Salvenis' and Benjamin, all of Eastham, conveyed property (Hog Island) on 12 May 1752 to Henry Young and Joseph Cole Jr. both of Eastham. This was property they received from their father, Israel Cole [Sr.]. So we know Remember's husband was alive in May 1752 at least. It also states that an Israel Cole was on a Southern District tax list of Dutchess Co. NY from Feb 1754-Feb 1761. Presumably the same Israel.
Considering that Remember's purported husband Joseph Mason was said to be married to Elizabeth Barney from 1714 to 1757, and Remember was married to Israel Cole from 1735 until at least 1761, it doesn't seem likely. Joseph Mason died (according to his profile) in 1761, so she couldn't have married him after Israel died. I think we need to disconnect Joseph Mason as Remember's husband, lacking any reliable sources. The timeline just doesn't work.
