Biography

Mary was born on 22 Jan 1822 in White County, Tennessee. She was Nelly's twin sister. She was the daughter of Thomas Burgess and Mary Hunter. On 6 Apr 1840 she married Vance Bethel Bowman. They had five children, 1 daughter and 4 sons. They moved to Iowa in 1850, where his family had earlier moved. In 1853 they were coming back to TN in a wagon train when he was in an accident and killed near the Missouri border in 1853. She returned to White, TN where on 24 Aug 1854 she married Levi Perkins. They one child, a daughter. Mary and Levi lived in White, Tennessee throughout their lives. He passed away in 1876, she in 1906. She is buried at the Perkins Cemetery in Putnam County, TN.
