When Nelson and Edith married in 1878 he was postmaster, ran a general store, including tailoring and was described in the 1881 Canada Census as a merchant. After their marriage, they ran the 100 acre farm of the Glovers, then ran a general store with partners in Aylmer. Nelson is called a Boot and Shoe Dealer in the 1891 Census, and a Carriage Agent in the 1901 Census. They retired to Toronto.
