Marvin was born Dec. 16, 1907, in Blairsburg, Hamilton County, Iowa. He was the son of Robert Burgess and Nora Hoskinson. The family farmed in Iowa and Minnesota. In 1910, they lived in Williams Township, Hamilton County, Iowa.[1] In 1920, they lived in Morgan Township, Franklin County, Iowa.[2] In 1925, they lived in Ramsey, Kossuth County, Iowa.[3] By 1930, the family had moved to Minnesota. Marvin stayed in Kossuth County, Iowa, working as a farm hand in Plum Creek Township for the Floyd W. Bason family.[4]
Marvin married Eleanor Hansen Dec. 31, 1939, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.[5] He had been living there since at least 1935. In 1940, Marvin and Eleanor lived in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Marvin was employed as a bus boy at the Y.W.C.A. Eleanor was a "counter girl" in a cafeteria.[6]
In the 1950s the family moved to Texas. Marvin and Eleanor had three children.
Marvin passed away June 20, 1996, in Ballinger, Runnels, Texas. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Ballinger, Runnels County, Texas.[7]
