Biography
Captain Joshua Burgess was born on Sept 29, 1800 in Harwich to Joshua Burgess and his wife Hannah Smith. He married Hope Doane Chase on January 23, 1825 in Harwich. She was previously married to Captain Joseph Winslow of Brewster who died in 1822 in North Carolina. Captain Burgess died in 1837 returning home from Grand Banks. They had six children.
