Obituary:

Priscilla A. Ennist passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at The Mary Ann Tully Hospice Inn in Melville, NY.

She was born on May 13, 1927 in Boston, Massachusetts, to Anne Sands Burgess and George Raymond Burgess. As a daughter of a military family, she grew up in various places including Washington, D.C., Florida, and Puerto Rico. Ever the adventurer, her activities ranged from riding at a dude ranch in Nevada when she was 14, to earning her private pilot’s license as a young woman.

Priscilla graduated from the Emma Willard School in Troy, NY in 1945. She later worked as a chemist’s assistant and, while a wife and mother, also served as a clerk, then as a clothing buyer for a retail store.

Priscilla was an avid gardener, who won a statewide prize for her iris while living in New Jersey. Her gardens always were a colorful celebration from the last frost of Spring through the chill of the Fall. She also was passionate about collie dogs -- her beloved “Smokey” won a contest in New York for best-of-show.

Priscilla also was an active contributor to her community. She served with the parish council of Our Lady of Fatima church in New Jersey, and as a Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout leader.

Priscilla was an avid reader, enjoyed puzzles, and was passionate about cooking for her family, whose mouths still water when they reminisce about her many creations.

Priscilla is predeceased by her parents, her husband Lawrence, and her brother George. She is survived by her three children, Sherrie, Lawrence Jr. (Johanna), and Marianne (Mark); eight grandchildren, Donald, Ashley (Derek), Laura (Barry), Kathleen (Catherine), Ryan, Mallory (James), William, Collin; a great-grandchild, Madeline; and her brother William (Louise).

A private ceremony will be held at a later date. Donations in Priscilla’s memory may be made to The Mary Ann Tully Hospice Inn, 70 Pinelawn Rd., Melville, NY 11747; https://www.hospicecarenetwork.org/care-mary-ann-tully-inn/
