Biography
[Elizabeth] Burghersh, daughter of Sir Bartholomew Burghersh (Burwash in Sussex),[1] wife of Maurice Fitzgerald fourth Earl of Kildare, and mother of Gerald the fifth earl and three other sons.[2]
[Elizabeth] daughter of Sir Bartholomew of Burwasse [Burghersh] was listed as recently married to Maurice son of Thomas, Earl of Kildare by 3 June 1347.[1]
Research Notes
Birth of Elizabeth about 1320 is estimated from her marriage in 1347. Her name, usually assumed to be Elizabeth, isn't stated in early sources.
Sometimes asserted to be the same woman as Elizabeth Berghersh the wife of Edward Despenser who died in 1409, rather than her aunt.[3]
