Biography

Elias was the son of Thomas Burgin and Lucy Deatherage. Elias Burgin was born 1 Nov 1797 in Madison Co., KY [1]

On 4 December 1839, Elias Burgin married Mary Emily Chenault in Madison County, Kentucky. [2][3][4]

In the 1840 U.S. Census, Elias is enumerated living in Madison County, Kentucky.

In 1850 Elias is enumerated living in Madison County, Kentucky at the age of 39, which agrees with the 1840 census for his age. Thus Elias was most likely born closer to 1810 than 1797. [6]

In the 1850 U.S. Slave Schedule, Elias owned the following slaves.[7]

(1) 40 year old Male Slave
(1) 28 year old Female Slave
(1) 10 year old Female Slave

1860 Elias is enumerated as being 57 years of age and living with is family in White Hall, Madison County, Kentucky. Elias is a farmer with a real estate value of $5500, and a personal estate with a value of $7800. Elias is a farmer. [8]

In the 1860 U.S. Slave Schedule, Elias owned the following slaves.[9]

(1) 49 year old Male Slave
(1) 19 year old Male Slave (possibly a fugitive)
(1) 38 year old Female Slave
(1) 19 year old Female Slave
(1) 2 year old Male Slave.

Elias estate went to probate on 31 January 1866 in Madison County, Kentucky, thus Elias has died prior to this date. [10]
