Miss Mary House and Mr. Shelby Burgin motored to Lexington Thursday afternoon and were married at the Phoenix Hotel. The bride is the attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. House, and is very popular among her many friends. The groom is the only son of Mrs. Calvin Burgin and is a splendid young farmer. Their many friends extend congratulations. They went from Lexington to New York and other places of interest on a short wedding trip. [4]

Shelby is 48 years old in 1940 and is living in Boonesboro, Madison County, Kentucky on a farm that he owns which is worth $1000. Shelby states that he has worked 20 weeks prior to the census in 1940 and that in 1939 he only worked 26 weeks (half a year). [7]
On Shelby's World War II Draft Registration Card he is described as being 5'11" tall, 195 pounds in weight, brown hair, blue eyes, and ruddy complexion. He states the next of kin as being Tom Brumfield[8]
Shelby died on 27 January 1977 in Richmond, Madison County, Kentucky. [9][10][11]
