Biography

Calvin Burgin was the son of John Burgin and Mary Polly Howard and was born on 13 March 1825 and died on 19 Jan 1916. [1][2][3]

On 8 January 1850, Calvin Burgin married Rowan Christopher in Madison County, Kentucky. [4][5]

In 1850 Calvin appears in his parents census record, but no mention of his wife Rowan/Roann who would of been around 18 to 19 years of age in this census. Calvin is 23 years of age and is working as a farmer in District 3 of Madison County, Kentucky. [6]

In 1860 Calvin is 35 years old and is living in Western Subdivision of Madison County, Kentucky and working as a farmer. In Calvin's household one other individual is listed and her name is Irene Fowler and no relationship is known. Irene is 9 years old and is attending school. [7]

In 1860 Calvin Burgin was a slave owner with the following slaves.[8]

1860 Calvin Burgin Slaves:
(1) Female Slave 40 years old.
(1) Male Slave 9 years old.
(1) Male Slave 5 years old.

In 1870 Calvin is living with his mother Polly in Union Township of Madison County, Kentucky. Calvin is 45 years old and lists his occupation as a farmer. Calvin has a personal estate value of $2000 and real estate value of $15,000. [9]

In 1880 Calvin is 55 years old and is working as a farmer in Foxtown, Madison County, Kentucky. Calvin states that he is married but no spouse is listed in the record, nor is there any history that a spouse for Calvin existed at this time. Calvin is living with his mother Polly who is 80 years of age. [10]

On 7 September 1881 Calvin married Celia Dozier in Madison County, Kentucky. [11]

Calvin is 75 years of age in 1900 and states that he was born in March of 1825 in Kentucky. Calvin is married to Celia (states he's been married 18 years) and is living in Foxtown, Madison County, Kentucky. Calvin is working as a farmer on his own farm that he owns. [12]

In 1910 Calvin has reached the age of 89 and is living in White Hall, Madison County, Kentucky. Calvin is still stating that he's a farmer and that he's been married 60 years, his wife Celia is only 54 years of age, so he is most likely stating how long it has been since his first marriage. [13]
