Joseph Burk/Burke was born about 1744. His parents were James Edward Burk and Mary Jane (Bane) Burk. He had a number of siblings including:

Child: James Burk

Child: Naomi Burk

Joseph had a marriage bond to Margaret "Margret" Grant on 29 December 1766 at Rowan County, N.C. The bond was by John England, James Burk, and Gideon Wright (county record). [1]A Tory during the Revolution, as was his father. Joseph and Margaret were the parents of the following children:

Child: James Burke
Child: Sally Burke
Child: Mary Burke
Child: Jonathan Burke
Child: Rebecca Burke
Child: Naomi Burke
Child: Nancy Burke

Joseph Burk died 1785/86 at Montgomery County, Virginia, where the family was reported living near Samuel Pepper on New River. There is a family history saying that Joseph drowned near Pepper's Ferry.

Research Notes

There is a Giles County marriage bond of a "Margret Burk" "'probably' daughter of William Burk, Sr." to William Lilly on 16 August 1808. Johnson indicates William Burk, Sr. had no such daughter. As a result, this latter Margret Burk is not understood. It appears that Joseph’s wife, Margaret (Grant) Burk did not remarry.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:

Dear PMs,

Unfortunately, none of the links worked any more, so I had to remove them from the profile along with some of the GEDCOM and merge duplications and fluffy stuff (like putting "Natural" after each child's name). You can see the original under the Changes tab.

I am attaching a link to finding great sources using RootSearch in case it has been a while. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Sources.

Respectfully,
