Biography

Nathaniel Burkhart (a.k.a Burkett) was born in 1731 to Johannes Buckhart and Katarina Hebert.[1]

In 1746, Nathaniel emigrated from Switzerland with his brother Jehu and sister Solome (age 11) and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The brothers were carpenters and Salome worked as a maid to Mennonite farmers. Salome married Peter Burgner. Nathaniel and Jehu moved to Maryland or Virginia.[2]

Nathaniel was married twice, his first wife was Anna Maria (Mary Ann) and his second wife was Katherine. Nathaniel had one known child, Anna Maria Burkhart (b. 1755).[1]

Nathaniel died in 1815 in Staunton, Virginia.[1]
