Biography

Joseph Burns served in the United States Civil War.
Enlisted: May 2, 1864
Mustered out: Sep 23, 1864

Joseph was born in 1842. He was the son of Cyrus Burns and Elizabeth Enloe. He passed away in 1905.

1860 - living with his father, step-mother and siblings in Johnson County. Age 18. Farmer.[1]

1867 - married Narcissa Sanders in Carter County, on July 21.[2]

1864 - joined the U.S. Army for a period of 100 days on May 2 in Vienna. Mustered in on June 9 at Camp Butler. Mustered out on September 23 at Camp Butler. [3]

1870 - living with Narcissa and their two children in Carter County. Age 28. Farmer. Born Tennessee. Surname spelled Burnes.[4]

1880 - living with Narcissa and their children in Carter County. Age 38. Works in sawmill.[5]

1890 - July 18, filed for invalid pension for Civil War service. Application #851052, certificate #652261.

1900 - living with second wife Viola and two youngest children in Piney, Oregon County. Age 59. Farmer. Born April 1841. Married 5 years. [6]

1905 - died on February 4. Buried in Cave Spring Cemetery.[7]
