Biography

Jane (Burns) King came free to the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)

1791 - It is estimated that Jane Burns was born in Castletown, Donacavey Tyrone, Ireland or in the Fintona, Tyrone area at this time. William King and his wife Jane are likely to be from Castletown, Donacavey, Tyrone, Ireland. This map shows the proximity to the town of Fintona. Some records indicate their origins as Fintona. Her daughters' parish records were located and show Castletown, Donacavey, Tyrone, Ireland as the location of their birth.

1841- Jane King (nee Burns) and two of her daughters Anne and Mary Jane King arrived in Australia aboard "The Brothers". It is not clear how or when her husband William or their daughter Ellen arrived in Australia. [1] Jane was mentioned in the Diary of a fellow passenger on "Brothers" his name was Henry Kidd Harpur.[2]The immigration information does not record her individual record but it shows the girls traveled together with their mother and she is mentioned by Henry Kidd Harpur in his diary.

1861 - Jane King (nee Burns) is deceased.[3] This is clearly her grave at Camperdown cemetery. She appears to have been residing with her daughter Mary Jane Cunningham and her family. Some transcriptions of these graves may be available through the Sydney Genealogical Society.
