In early times our Great Grandfather Burris ran away from his parents and home in Ireland, at the age of 15 yrs. to go to America to find his two brothers who had gone before. He got on a boat thinking it an American vessel and that he would soon find his brothers, but instead he was aboard an English Man of war fighting against America. They put him at firing a Cannon where they kept him at the breech of a cannon for seven yrs. before he was allowed to land, during this time he had all the flesh shot from his right-hip by a cannon ball and carried the scar the rest of his days. He finally got to America and settled in Washington County, Ohio, but he never found or heard tell of his two Brothers. He married here an reared a large family.
