Biography
Samuel enlisted in Company K of the 56th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, being elected to and commissioned as a second lieutenant. He eventually attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, commanding the 8th Regiment of U.S. Colored Troops. [1]
Married Delphine Raynsford, daughter of Edward Raynesford and Charlotte Mead Drake of Owego, New York, on 25 July 1876. [2]
