Biography

According to The History of the County of Peterborough, Ontario, Walter was born September 18, 1809, in Marlborough Township, Upper Canada. His early studies were under Mr Blackburn in the town of Brockville. He read medical books in the office of Dr Basil P. Church in Merrickville. After attending medical college in Fairfield, New York, he passed his examination before the Medical Board of Upper Canada in 1835. He practised in Smith's Falls for 35 years before moving to Peterborough in 1870. He was a school trustee for 20 years and 16 years as the Chairman of the Joint Board of Grammar and Common School Trustees. He was a coroner for Lanark and Renfrew for 21 years and coroner for Leed and Grenville for 10 years. In religion he was Church of England and in politics he was Conservative. He was Reeve for three years.

In 1837 he married Maria Schofield; they had seven children.[1]

In 1870 he moved to Peterborough. He died in 1886.[2]
