Susie was my Grandmother, and while we never lived in the same state she visited from Greensboro, NC where she lived with her brother, Lloyd Jensen Burslem. She was a writer and illustrator who sold her stories to another author who published them under her own name. She used to send me letters every week when I was a child with stories and pictures and always a quarter or two taped inside. Once a year she would send a care package full of "goodies" she had collected all year from various bargain stores. She sent newspaper clippings of current events from her area to put in the scrapbook she had brought me on a previous trip. She sent me colorful stationary to encourage my writing and always responded promptly to my letters. I always looked forward to receiving mail as a very young child when others my age had no idea what a mailbox was used for. She was a wonderful grandmother!
