She died at the home of her daughter Amelia Schuyler. Her death notice reads as follows:

"In Memoriam -- In Townsend, at the residence of Mrs. Francis Schuyler, on Sunday, April 13th, 1902, Jeannette Burt, widow of James Dowswell, Senr., passed away in the 87th year of her age. Mrs. Dowswell was born near Glasgow, Scotland, in 1815, and lived in the reign of five British Sovereigns. She was a devoted wife and mother; and leaves to mourn her demise nine children: Mr. A. H. Dowswell, Southern Virginia; Mrs. Henry Brown, Port Rowan; Mrs. John Woodward (sic), St. George; Mrs. Alex Hess, Hamilton; Mr. John Dowswell, Lynedoch; Mr. James Dowswell, Glenshee, Mrs. Francis Schuyler, Townsend; Mrs. Albert Collins, Simcoe; Mrs. Irving Collins, Simcoe. Also two brothers, John Burt, Michigan; Mr. Robert Burt, St. George. Mrs. Dowswell was an aunt of D. Burt, M.P.P., of St. George, and Dr. Burt of Paris."

On the 1901 census she reported having immigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1820, likely incorrect as her brother Robert was born 1821 in Scotland.
