Biography

Born Lula Cornelia Burt in 1872 to William Burt and Mary Adams who were living in Wake County, North Carolina. [1] Married Thomas Diego Stewart in 1897. Died 1951 age 78 and is buried in Harnett County, North Carolina.

Residence 1880: Buck Horn community, Wake County, North Carolina as daughter Cornelia Burt (7) in household of William Burt (52), wife Mary Burt (49), son Alfred Burt (25), daughter Anna Burt (23), son William Burt (14), daughter Panola Burt (9), mother (of William) Betsy Burt (75) and son James Burt (21). [2]

Marriage 1897 to Thomas Diego Stewart in Wake County, North Carolina.[3][4]

Residence 1900: Grove Township, Harnett County, North Carolina as Lula C Stewart (28) wife to head Thomas D Stewart (33) with daughters Exie B Stewart (3), Mary A Stewart (1) in household of Thomas's father John K Stewart (55) with wife Elizabeth M Stewart (57),and Willis Stewart (26, servant). in household of John K Stewart (55) with wife Elizabeth M Stewart (57), son (and Lula's spouse) Thomas D Stewart (33), and their daughters Exie B Stewart (3), Mary A Stewart (1) with Willis Stewart (26, servant).[5]

Residence 1910: Grove Township, Harnett County, North Carolina as wife Lula C Stewart (37) in household of Thos D Stewart (43) with daughter Exie Stewart (12), Mary Stewart (10), Glautis [aka Gladys] Stewart (9), Mildred Stewart (4) and boarder Ruffus Stewart (29).[6]

Residence 1920: Grove, Harnett County as wife Lula C Stewart (46) in household of Thomas D Stewart (52), with daughter Mary Stewart (18), daughter Gladys Stewart (16), and daughter Mildred Stewart (13). [7] Some transrciptions add family of Thomas Stewart with household of AW Denning due to lack of clear demarcation between family units. The Denning family is numbered 95 while the note next to Thomas Stewart merely reads "farm". The next family, Albert Norris, is numbered 96. I do not recall Grandmother or any of her sisters ever talking about living with the Denning family.[8]

Residence 1930: Duke Township, Harnett County, North Carolina as wife Lula C Stewart (57) in household of Thomas D Stewart (62) with adopted son William S Byrd (14) and Lillian Johnson (30, boarder). [9]

Residence 1940: Grove Township, Harnett County, North Carolina as wife Lula Stewart (64) in household of D Thos Stewart (72) with daughter Exie Smith (42) and grandson Tommy Smith (17).[10]

Death of spouse: 1945 [11]

Death: 1951, age 78 in Harnett County, North Carolina, United States[12][13]

Burial: Coats City Cemetery, Coats, Harnett County, North Carolina, United States[14]
