Biography

"Sarah Burt daughter of Jonathan Burt born the 4th of 7th Mon. 1656" at Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts.[1]

"Aprill 1675 Benja Dorchester & sara Burt: Joined in Mariage."[2] Benjamin and Sarah had one child:

  • Benjamin Dorchester, b. 8 Feb 1675[3]

"Febr. 14th 1676 Luke Hitchcock & Sarah, widdow Dorchester (ye daughter of Jonathan Burt) joined in marriage ..." [4] Luke and Sarah had at least the following children registered at Springfield:

  • Sarah, b. Apr. 1, 1678 (as Hitchcocke)[5]
  • Elizabeth, b. Mar. 19, 1679/80 (as Hitchcocke)[6]
  • Mercy, b. Feb. 1, 1681 (as Hitchcocke)[7]
  • Hannah, b/. Mar. 18, 1683/4 (as Hitchcocke)[8]
  • Thankful, b. Oct. 18, 1686 (as Hitchcocke)[9]
  • Mary, b. 21 Oct 1688[10]
  • Luke, b. July 13, 1691 (as Hitchcocke)[11]
  • Jonathan, b. June 24, 1696, bp. June 28, 1696[12]
  • Pelatiah, b. July 16, 1698[13]

"Sarah, wid. (relict of Luke Esqr decd), Nov. 8, 1746."[14] She is buried at the Springfield Cemetery, Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts: Plot: Willow Avenue 3-60[15] You can see a picture of her beautiful old tombstone at FindAGrave. The epitaph on her tombstone reads:

"Here Rests the
Body of Mrs.
Sarah Hitchcock
the Relect of Luke
Hitchcock, Esq'r
who Deces'd Novemb'r
ye 9th 1746 in ye 91st
year of Her Age."
