Biography

Sarah _______ was married to William Bassett, who immigrated on the Abigail in 1635 at the age of 9. Sarah's identity however is unknown.

They were married by about 1647 (assuming that she was the mother of all his children and not a second wife).

First known record documenting Sarah by name appears to be 1 June 1660 William sold land with the consent of his "now wife"[1] She was party to other sales of land 23 Feb 1664/5, 10 July 1690 and a deed to William Bassett Jr. 9 July 1691.[2]

Assuming she was his only wife, Sarah survived her husband and was provided for in his will dated 10 Feb 1701/2, proved 22 May 1703.

The birth order, estimated birth dates, and presence of two different daughters named Hannah in this list are based on Anderson.[4] The first seven children were named in their grandmother Ann Burt’s 1661 will.[5] All except the first Hannah (assuming Anderson’s conclusion that there were two Hannahs) are listed in William’s Feb 1701/2 will.[6][7]

Research Notes

Disputed Parents

Disputed Parents: There is no evidence she was daughter of Hugh Burt and wife Ursula. Hugh Burt was her husband's step-father, and this assumption may have been based on the misinterpretation of references to their relationship.

Disputed Birth/Christening

Unsourced: Birth/Christening Neither of these dates seems practical (one too late, one too early) 13 APR 1635 in Harberton, Harberton, Devonshire, England, 14 Jan 1620 - 14 Jan 1621 in Harberton, Devon, England.

As explained in the comment just posted to her husband William Bassett, I think that Hannah (Bassett-5706) should be added as a child of Sarah (___), wife of William Bassett. According to Anderson, they had two daughters named Hannah. (The profile for the second Hannah (Bassett-1571) is already attached but previously conflated the two Hannahs).

I also agree that the last name should be changed to Unknown.

Anderson Great Migration: William Bassett m. Sarah _____. William's mother Ann m. 2nd Hugh Burt, which is why William was named in Burt's will. See Associations

Hotten's list of emigrants, p. 93, p. 98 does not list a dtr Sarah who migrated with them.

Anderson on Hugh Burt. No child name Sarah b. to Hugh.

Burt-830 and Burt-904 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, same approximate date of birth.

Sarah is the daughter of Hugh Burt. Her last name at birth should be Burt.
