Lewis Burwell (Nathaniel5, Lewis4, Lewis3, Edward2, Edward1); b. 1710; m. Anne Holden; 1st wife; m. Mary Willis, daughter of Col. Francis Willis and Anne Rich, 1736; 2nd wife; m. Frances 1745; 3rd wife, 2nd husband; d. before Mar 1752. He and Mary Willis resided at 'Whitemarsh', Gloucester Co., VA. He was President of Council at Virginia. He resided at 'Carter's Creek', Gloucester Co., VA. He was Governor under the Crown in 1750 at Virginia.

Mary Willis was born in 1718. She died in 1746. Known children of Lewis Burwell and Mary Willis were as follows: 12. i. Lewis Burwell, b. 1737 at Virginia; m. Judith Page. ii. She married Thomas Weathersbee around 1754.

She died between 1790 and 1800 in Martin County.^[2] The person who transcribed this got it wrong. If you look at the original it is Weathersby not Weathersley.

Notes

That Lucy, wife of Thomas Weathersbee, was the daughter of Lewis Burwell and Mary Willis is explained by Elizabeth DeHuff, who

• cited a statement of her grandmother's ("Grandma" Willis, 1820- 1898): "The mother of her "grandfather Thomas Weathersbee was a Burwell", and
• concluded, "because of the destruction of so many records of Gloucester County, Va., [Lewis Burwell's] will has never been found. One can imagine young [Lucy[ Burwell going to visit her Uncle John Willis and his wife Mildred Smith Willis in Brunswick County and meeting Thomas Weathersbee, who lived not far away near the county line. [Lucy[ had many close cousins i n Edgecombe Co., N.C., according to records there, which I have examined."^[3][4]

John Boddie reached the same conclusion.^[5]

Elizabeth was born in 1738. She passed away in 1785. ^[6]
