Biography

Augustus P. Bush was born on 21 Sep 1828 in Bridgewater, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. He was the son of Adrian Bush and Amy Kallam. Augustus married Elizabeth L Jackson about 1858. Augustus died on 1 Feb 1819 in Montrose, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania and is buried in Montrose Cemetery.

Transcription of Obituary for Augustus P. Bush by Jane (Tingley) Hunter on 14 Oct 2023 from Montrose Democrat, 21 Feb 1918: Augustus P. Bush “The death of August Pettibone Bush occurred at the residence in Montrose occupied by the late Daniel Coon, Feb. 1, 1918 where he had resided for the past year. He was born in Bridgewater Twp 90 years ago. His wife, Elizabeth Jackson Bush died April 10, 1915. He became an almost helpless invalid by a stroke of paralysis in the summer of 1882, being actively engaged in farming in North Bridgewater. He moved to Montrose and had resided here since. He was the son of Adrian and Amy Kellum Bush, the former being a son of Caleb Bush (1755-1821), a Revolutionary War soldier, who came from Litchfield county, Connecticut in 1809 and purchased 500 acres of timber land in North Bridgewater. The latter was a daughter of Luther Kellum (1760-1846) who came from Stonington, Conn., and when but 16 years old entered the Revolutionary army, serving three years. The part of the land above mentioned, occupied by the subject of our article, was afterwards occupied by Major D. D. Hinds. His brothers and sisters, all of whom have passed away before him, were as follows: Amy Ann Bush, who died in 1832; Temperance Adaline, wife of Hiram Allen, of Candor., N.Y.; Susannah M., wife of William Beebe, of West Bridgewater, who died in 1913 at the age of 93; Marvin K. Bush, who died in 1903, in this place, where he had lived for several years, after leaving his farm in North Bridgewater; and Caleb S. Bush, whose farm was also carved from the tract settled by his grandfather, Caleb Bush.”
