I Information abstracted from transcript of two letters written in 1891 by a granddaughter of Mary & Joseph Hancock. Letters in possession of a descendant - transcript at Pioneer Historical Society of Bedford Co. PA. ___Grandmother's maiden name was Mary Bush. She married a Mr. Wallace, and they had four children - two sons & two daughters. Mr. Wallace was killed by the Indians. Mary married Joseph Hancock, her second husband, they had one child, Joseph Hancock, Jr. born 21 July 1758. Mr. Hancock was also killed by the Indians. Mary married Lewis Castleman, her third husband. He died and Mary died a widow at the age of 108. ___Note: Joseph Hancock/Handcock was listed on a 28 Aug 1757 size roll of Col. George Washington's Company; age 35, born in VA, 5'6" tall, a cooper, enlisted Dec 1754 at Chesterfield. He was one of the witnesses in the 19 Nov 1757 murder charge against Ludwig. ___1790 census of Bedford Twp & County, PA: Mary Castleman. 1 free white female [alone].
