Biography

Samuel Prescott Bush is the father of Senator Prescott Bush, the grandfather of U.S. President George Herbert Walker Bush and the great-grandfather of U.S. President George W. Bush."

Samuel Prescott Bush was born 04 October 1863 in Brick Church, New Jersey and died 08 February 1948 in Columbus, Ohio. He was the son of the Rev. James Smith Bush. He graduated from the Stevens Institute of Technology in 1884, and married Flora Sheldon on 20 June 1894 in Columbus, Ohio.

From approximately 1906 through 1927. Bush was president of Buckeye Steel Castings of Columbus, Ohio, which (among other things) made railway parts for the Harrimans. The two families were closely associated at least until the end of World War II.

He lost his wife Flora Sheldon on 04 September 1920 in Narragansett, Rhode Island when she was hit by a car.

“Funeral services today were arranged here Tuesday for Samuel P. Bush, retired industrialist and railroad director who died yesterday. He was 84.

“Bush, born at Orange, N.Y., and educated in New York City and Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey, rose during his lifetime from a shop apprentice of the Pennsylvania railroad to superintendent of the south-western division.

“He was president of the Buckeye Steel Casting Co. here as director of several large firms.”^[1]
