Biography
Thomas was born in 1838, some of his children record their father's name as Thomas John (not found on any other documents). He passed away in 1898, aged 60.
in 1859 Thomas married Jane Heazlett (spelling varies, e.g. Hazlett), daughter of *Robert Heazlett and Alice Nixon, Enniskillen district, Co. Fermanagh, Ireland. Jane came to Australia, aged 19, in 1855 aboard the Himalaya, with older sister Ellen.
- CAUTION: Jane's father, Robert Heazlett, has a brother Abraham, who also has a daughter, Jane, born circa 1821. This Jane also emigrated to Australia, with her father aboard the Kate in 1851.
Jane and Thomas married 1859 in Maitland, NSW, Australia. Listed as a 'cabinet maker' in 1872 His death notice states he had lived in Tamworth about 30 years, was a cabinet maker and undertaker. Residence Bourke St. He left a widow, five daughters and one son, (none named), a son-in-law RJ Walsh.
