Bonnie passed away Tuesday morning, March 12, 2013 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems – Fairmont. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements. Bonnie (Butcher) Carter was born August 20, 1929, in Jackson, MN, the daughter of Reuben and Emma (Thompson) Butcher. She attended school in Jackson and graduated from Jackson High School in 1947. Following her graduation, Bonnie worked at the court house in Jackson and later moved to Fairmont where she was employed for many years at Railway Motors as a switchboard operator. Bonnie also ran a daycare for many years and took great pride in seeing those she cared for as little children bring their children to her years later. On December 26, 1954, Bonnie was united in marriage to William “Bill” Carter at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairmont, MN. Together the couple made their home in Fairmont where they were blessed with three children, Debbie, Richard, and Douglas. Bonnie was a very active person who didn’t like to sit and let time pass her by. She volunteered for many years at the hospital in Fairmont and continued to do so until just a couple of months ago. Bonnie looked forward to seeing friends while having a cup of coffee at McDonalds and she cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren. Bonnie enjoyed traveling as long as it was by car and looked forward to quiet time working in her garden. She was a wonderful cook and loved baking goodies making sure there was always plenty for those that visited. In her younger years she enjoyed attending dances, especially ballroom dances. Bonnie was truly a caring person who was quick to offer those she met with a smile. She will be greatly missed by those that loved her and called her friend. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Debbie Fritz and her husband, Bill of rural Granada, MN, Richard Carter of Fairmont, MN, and Douglas Carter and his wife, Sarah of Deephaven, MN; grandchildren, Nicholas Fritz and his wife, Kelly, Kristin Fritz and fiancé, Kyle Grammond, Joseph Carter, and Annie Carter; sister, Vivian Heideman of Fairmont, MN; brother-in-law, Darwin Carter and his wife, Vera of Jackson, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Rueben and Emma Butcher; husband, William “Bill” Carter; sister, Phyllis Butcher; infant brother, Milton Butcher; sisters-in-law, Ethel Crisman, Ruth Anderson, Doris Peterson, Lola Schreiber, Velma Michelson, and Avis Hancock; and other family members.
