Lady Eleanor Butler was the older sister of James Butler, first Duke of Ormond.Butler-46.[1][2]
She married Donogh MacCarthy, Baron of Blarney, County Cork, Viscount Muskerry, and Earl of Clancarty.[1] Donogh was a General of the Irish Forces of Munster for King Charles I of England, and Charles II.[1] Lady Ellen and Lord Donogh had children:
Fighting against Oliver Cromwell's New Model Army in the Irish Confederate Wars, her husband Donogh was defeated by Ludlow in Kerry in 1652, and on 27 June surrendered his last stronghold, Ross Castle Killarney, and his army of 5,000 men.[1] He then went to Spain until Charles II restored his estates to him and created him Earl of Clancarty.[1]
Her husband, Donogh died in London in August 1665.[1]
She died in 1682.
