Joseph Butler was born 1646, 1647,[1] or 1648 in Hartford, Connecticut. He died in Wethersfield, Connecticut on 10 December 1732.[2]
He was married in about 1667[3] and again on 14 November 1676 in Wethersfield, Hartford, CT.
"Joseph Butler was born about 1648 at Hartford and died Dec. 10 or 15, 1732. In 1667 at Wethersfield, he was married to Mary Goodrich, daughter of Ensign William and his wife Sarah Marvin Goodrich of Wethersfield. William Goodrich was barn probably in Suffolk County, England. William was a freeman in Connecticut on May 15, 1656, deputy to the General Court May 1,5, 1662. He also served as grand juror. He was an ensign in the train band under Lieut. Samuel Wells, from Wethersfield in 1663 and was still an ensign at the close of King Philip's War in 1676. Sarah Marvin, born in England, was the daughter of Mathew and Elizabeth Marvin.
Joseph Butler was nominated freeman at Hartford on May 21, 1668, although he had settled on the lands in the South meadows of Wethersfield, which he had received from his father, Richard Butler, Joseph and Mary had seven children, all born at Wethersfield."[4]
He is buried at Center Cemetery, Rocky Hill, Hartford, CT
